The "4th Film Festival", interested as ever in the "movements" in independent film, is hosting an important event from Milan this year. The Milan of the emigrants: the Lombard line in film is the first hand to be played in a new game: revealing that which exists, breaking the inertia of “visions” and bringing obstinate, resistant, urgent films out into the open. Because visibility means discussion, conflict and growth for anyone who puts their creativity to work, but for filmmakers it is an essential condition.

Introduction

4FF, with the collaboration of "Lo Scrittoio", fot the 2008 editions, presents:

"THE MILAN OF THE EMIGRANTS: the Lombard line in Film"

Lombard films cannot be reduced to a simple territorial label or school, with their composite vocabulary and poetics, and over the years the Lombard tradition in cinema seems to draw an invisible yet palpable intergenerational line which is both a strategic outpost of Italian independent film and a never abandoned, ever-present, still alive source of inspiration and production. The Lombard line is not therefore intended to provide an all-encompassing definition, or attempt to reduce complexity, but to reveal a landscape abounding in tensions, plans and views of the world through the eyes of the filmmakers who participate in this voyage of migration out of the mist. Stopping in many different places along the way: one for each of the films and each of the filmmakers appearing in this unusual travelling festival.
