introduction
Bolzano has witnessed the birth and development of four individual Cinema Festivals that have grown and evolved separately thanks to the efforts and dedication of three different cultural organisations (The Bolzano Cineclub, The Bolzano Cineforum and Harlock). Each Festival provides an original perspective on cinema that is neither commonplace nor cliché.
Having fully understood and appreciated the festivals' respective values and their common goal, it was a natural consequence that the organisers pool their energies and concentrate on a larger, greater objective: a single event that joins all the different individual festivals together under one roof.
The objectives the organizers are hoping to fulfil through this endeavour are multiple and varied. Above all their aim is to teach the general public that cinema can be understood and conceived in many individual ways, all of which differ greatly from the way the genre is commonly perceived.
In addition, they hope to promote elements and materials that are generally inaccessible and make them readily available to the public and industry professionals. Finally they intend to turn the festival into an "exhibition" for various authors who will be able to take advantage of the occasion to meet and speak with the general public, other film makers and industry professionals.
These presuppositions have given life to an even stronger, more important cultural proposal. This project is driven by the intent to create a transversal link between the individual festivals and by the hope that their prestige, influence and quality will be reinforced as a result of their being presented together in a single event: 4FF - 4 Film Festivals.
