The aim of the festival is to promote peace and understanding among different populations through the examination and projection of films that illustrate the history, the current situation, the life and the problems of those groups and individuals who inhabit the "borderlands". This is the place (an example being the province that hosts the festival itself) where language, civilization and different ethnic groups come into contact and often into conflict.

Introduction

International Film Festival

Bolzano is a city that sits on the border between two cultures and two different worlds. In 1998 Ferruccio Cumer (president of The ZeLIG film school, and vice-president of the film culture association the Bolzano Cineforum) and his daughter Federica, (fresh from modest but interesting work as a film director and writer) decided precisely for this reason that Bolzano would be the ideal city in which to organise a festival that dealt with border lands and the particular situations, both positive and negative, that can arise within them. The festival was given the name Borderlands and unlike any other film festival, has a very strong thematic link with the border city that acts as its host.

Artistic Director: Mazzino Montinari

Target group

The films participating in the festival can reflect any type of situation, either negative or positive, and will be evaluated exclusively according to their overall cinematographic value. Publicity films and touristic or travel documentary films not strictly linked to the "Border lands" theme will not be accepted.
